Punjabi Lassi is very easy, refreshing beverage that can be made in no time and needs only 4 ingredients!
Lassi is a yogurt drink which is another famous dish from the state of Punjab. Though Punjab is known for this, it is made in many parts of India. There are many flavor variations for this like mango lassi, strawberry lassi, pumpkin lassi etc. No matter how many types of lassi I make or taste, I love the classic version the most and that’s the one I am sharing with you all today.
A fun fact about this drink is that traditionally it is made in a huge clay pot, by placing the yogurt in the pot and churning it with water, sugar, sometimes Koya etc and served in small clay pots called Matki. Clay pots are used as they keep the drink cooler for a long time.
What makes this Yogurt Drink so special?
I prefer this drink for several reasons. This is a perfect summer drink, as it so refreshing, so simple to make and the entire family loves it. When it gets hot our first go to beverage is soda, but I find this as a healthy alternative to soda.
Easy Yogurt Drink / Punjabi Lassi Recipe:
Serves 4
- Whole milk yogurt – 2 cup
- Chilled water – 2 cup
- Sugar – 6 tbsp / as per taste
- Ice – 2 cups ( or more if desired)
Optional ingredients:*
- Almonds – crushed – 2
- Pistachio – crushed – 3
- Saffron – 2-3 strands
- Cardamon – 1 pod ( Seeds crushed)
- Pulse yogurt, water, sugar in a food processor or blend them in a blender.
- Split the yogurt mixture and into 4 cups/glasses
- Garnish lassi with dry fruits, saffron, and cardamon powder.
- Serve immediately
