Hi! Welcome to The Delightful Delights! I am Soumya.
The story of my Blog…
It was the first week of my college during June or so of 2006 when life was taking new turns by the day, I was talking to one of my seniors who was talking about some kind of online journaling called blogging. Me being a curious person and one who loved to write instantly connected to this idea and decided to give it a try. Ever since I fell in love with the idea of blogging and tried doing it with different ideas over the years. Nothing felt more joyful that food blogging.
I started this blog in November 2014, to escape from the new mom blues of long nights and rough days. As I expected, it gave me great joy, trying out new dishes and journaling them, but after a few months, the excitement cloud passed away, so I took a break.
During my break, I went back to school, started working and met interesting people, had amazing conversations of food. While some were real experts in cooking, some people surprised me very much, for instance, during a discussion I said “Trader joe’s sells fresh green peas when in season” and a 20 something-year-old was astonished that green peas grow on plants and expressed that he always wondered how they end up in freezers. For someone like me who grew up with only fresh produce and barely any frozen food, I was quite surprised when I found out how little some people were connected to fresh produce.
Upon further discussions, with different people, at different jobs, and I realized that there are a lot of people who were in love with cooking and some in specific Indian cooking, but always thought it was complicated and involved buying too many ingredients which they may or may not use later. These seemed to be fair concerns, so this time I decided to give fusion cooking a try, which went on well for a while, but it was getting difficult to come up with new fusion recipes, as I knew a lot of Indian style of cooking but I was a beginner in other cuisines. So I took another break for doing some more brainstorming.
During the break, I met several second-generation Indians who have settled here for a long time, and have little or no knowledge about traditional Indian recipes. This is when I decided to go back to my roots and decided to remake traditional recipes in an easy and quick way. I did receive a great response on social media.
Next challenge I came across is how people identify Indian cooking with some dishes in particular like tikka masala, which was bothering me very much. So I decided to work on recipes which are less known or known to be complicated. It was almost at this time when I came across the show Raja Rasoi Aur Anya Kahaniyaan on Netflix which inspired me to challenge myself to explore, learn and recreate less known recipes from various states of the country in an easy, quick and delicious way.
It has been almost a year since I started working on this idea, in the process of recreating the authentic recipes in a more adaptable way, I have been learning a lot about my country’s traditions, cultures, cooking, which is an amazing learning journey by itself and I am very happy to share my adventures with you on my blog!
I did tell you the story of my blog but oops….. didn’t introduce myself yet 😉
I am a working mom, student and of course a blogger. During the day I am an accountant, and by evening I enjoy spending time with my family. On weekends or whenever I find the time, I dedicate it to researching and remaking the less known recipes.
Now that you heard my story, what can you expect from my blog?!
What’s my role in the blog?
I am a one-woman team when it comes to the blog. I am the author, photographer, social media manager and pretty much everything when it comes to the blog.
My blog is minimalistic!
I do make it a priority to respect all my wonderful readers by providing the recipes those are family and friends approved in an as minimalistic way as possible. So my recipe posts will have a brief introduction of the dish, 1-2 pictures and the recipe itself. Generally, basic recipes do have step by step pictures.
What kind of recipes?
The recipes I post in this blog are vegetarian only. I try to make my recipes as simple as possible with as fewer ingredients as possible. Do check out my list of 1-9 ingredient recipes.
How often do I post?
2019 – My goal for the blog this year is to post at least 6 recipes for 10 Indian states. I generally post once a week, but when life gets in the way, I do take breaks.
