Basmati rice is flavorful and fluffy rice that can be cooked easily at home!
Basmati Rice is one of the many kinds of rice that is produced in India. It is very soft and fluffy as many of the white rice varieties. What is special about this rice is the long grain. There are many different ways to cook this rice depending on what dish you’re making. In this post, I am sharing all the methods of cooking I use in my kitchen.
How to cook Basmati rice:
Serves 4
Method 1: Electric Rice cooker
- Basmati Rice – 2 cups
- Water – 4 cups + for soaking
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Soak uncooked rice in water for 10 – 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, add rice, water, salt and oil into the rice cooker.
- Then, turn on the rice cooker.
- Next, let the rice cook until all the water is gone.
- After water is gone, turn off the rice cooker.
- Then remove the lid and let the rice sit for 5 minutes.
- Finally mix the rice, fluff it and serve.
Method 2: Stovetop
- Basmati rice: 2 cups
- Water – 6 cups + Soaking
- Salt – 1/4 cup
- Oil – tbsp
- Soak Basmati rice in water for 10-20 minutes.
- While that is soaking, place a large pot on a medium high heat.
- Then add water, salt, oil and bring it to a rolling boil.
- After rice has soaked, add it to the water and let it cook for 4-5 minutes or until soft.
- Next, drain the water and serve.
